This book details Oba Yozo's lifelong struggles with alienation, abuse, and self-acceptance. He attempts to reconcile himself to the world around him in early childhood, continues through high school, where he becomes a 'clown” to mask his alienation, and eventually leads to many failed suicide attempts as an adult.
